Artist Bio

A Canadian artist, Simone is inspired by the wild, beautiful and yet familiar landscapes of northern Ontario. Her paintings often feature the Ahmic lakeshore, found in Magnetawan, or the fields, trees and farms near her home in Cambridge. Simone focuses on the use of layered cubes of color to transform photos into feelings on canvas. She finds that the intentional use of brushstrokes as cubes and lines gives rhythm and interest to her paintings, and allows for a calming art-making experience. It is her goal to capture the ever changing beauty and mood of the Canadian landscape.

In 2019 Simone received her Bachelor of Arts from Redeemer University, and completed teacher’s college at Redeemer in 2021. Since 2017 Simone has been painting seriously, and has shown art in Julia Veenstra’s Square Foot Show from 2019-2024, in Paula White Diamond’s Square Foot and Big Ideas Show from 2019-2023, in Blue Crow Gallery’s Summer Group Show from 2020-2022, in the DSVA Annual Art Auction from 2021-2024, in Taren White Gallery from 2022-2023, and in Westland Gallery in 2023.

Simone is motivated to paint by observing the intricate and spectacular art of the Creator, the innovative Group of Seven, and the ever-changing effects of light determining the world we see. Simone continues to think about, and explore, how to engage with God in a meaningful way through her art. He has made everything beautiful in its time. Also, he has put eternity into man's heart, yet so that he cannot find out what God has done from the beginning to the end. (Ecclesiastes 3:11)
